CM/ECF is the national electronic filing system
which is being adopted in virtually every federal court in the country,
and which has been utilized by our Bankruptcy Court for nearly two years.
Electronic filing will provide many benefits to the bar, including 24-hour
filing from any location, immediate service of documents, and reduced mailing
and messenger costs.
Important information regarding the transition to CM/ECF is available on
our Court’s website at www.nvd.uscourts.gov.
The website contains a “best practices” memo for law firms which
has been developed by the Court’s Attorney Advisory Committee. This
document includes recommendations on the type of equipment and software
you will need to file documents electronically.
You can use the website to register for one of the training opportunities
on the electronic filing system. There are four types of training available:
computer based training through our web site, hands on training at the Courthouses,
large group demonstration training at the Courthouses, and, for those larger
firms with an appropriate training facility, we will come to you if you
so elect! While training will not be mandatory, I strongly encourage all
who will be practicing in federal court to participate in formal training.
Training is available and encouraged for your staff as well. You will be
required to register as a user of the system prior to filing any documents
and you can do so through our web site.
The judges of our court recognize that the adoption of the CM/ECF system
represents a significant change for all of us. We appreciate your efforts
to adapt to this new system and are confident that by working together we
can all make this transition as smooth and efficient as possible. Thank
you all. |
